Welcome new Editor-in-Chief: Emanuela Volpi

We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Editor-in-Chief of Molecular Cytogenetics, Dr Emanuela Volpi. As someone who has been involved with the journal for years, we are confident she will support the continued growth of this important community journal that was established and led by Editors Thomas Liehr, Yuri Yurov, and Ivan Iourov for over 15 years.

Dr. Volpi is a Reader in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Westminster in London and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology. She earned a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’. Before joining Westminster, she held post-doctoral positions at Cancer Research UK, a research tenure at the Italian National Research Council, and was Head of Molecular Cytogenetics at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford. Her research expertise is in molecular cytogenetics and chromosome biology, with specific focus on genome functional organisation, chromosomal fragility and instability, nuclear architecture, and cancer biomarkers. She co-chairs the ‘Chromosomes’ integrity, stability and dynamics’ permanent working group of the European Cytogeneticists Association

Aims and scope

Molecular Cytogenetics encompasses all aspects of chromosome biology and the application of molecular cytogenetic techniques in all areas of biology and medicine, including structural and functional organization of the chromosome and nucleus, genome variation, expression and evolution, chromosome abnormalities and genomic variations in medical genetics and tumor genetics.  The journal is divided into the following sections:

  • Cancer genetics
  • Clinical genetics
  • Animals and plants
  • Mutagenesis
  • Nuclear and chromosome architecture
  • Technology and methods

For more information on the the section aims and scope visit our sections information page.

About the European Cytogeneticists Association

The European Cytogeneticists Association (E.C.A.) was founded in 1997 and is registered in France.

The objectives of the Association are:

  • Representation and promotion of fundamental research and applications of cytogenetics
  • Organisation, assessment, and quality control of cytogenetic services in Europe
  • Research, education and training in all fields which are of interest to or concern cytogenetics and cytogeneticists
  • Facilitation of transfer of information and collaboration between laboratories.
  • Representation of professionals in cytogenetics
  • Study of questions and defence of interests concerning cytogeneticists or cytogenetics in general
